Ericsson Partner with Brazilian Government for IIoT Lab Project

15/02/2017

Swedish telecom giants Ericsson have collaborated with the Brazilian government to establish proof-points of the Networked Society in Brazil.

The partnership will focus on a Networked Society Lab that Ericsson will develop to trial new tech and assess the positive impact of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) projects such as smart agriculture, rainforest protection and monitoring devices.

“The Internet of Things is quickly emerging as a very significant agent of transformation as it blends the physical and digital worlds. By cooperating with Ericsson’s Networked Society Lab, we will better understand and be at the forefront of how we can sustainably improve agriculture, smart cities, energy and industrial production, among other areas, in Brazil,” explained Andre Figueiredo, Brazilian Minister of Communications. The Networked Society Lab was officially opened on April 29, 2016 by Minister Figueiredo. The venture is a branch of the Ericsson Innovation Center that works in conjunction with suppliers, consumers, universities and government bodies to cultivate the IIoT ecosystem in Brazil and the rest of Latin America.“The cooperation with European Union and European companies is an important component of the Brazilian strategy for IoT and 5G developments. Recently, we did a joint statement together with the European Commission for Digital Economy and Society about this partnership and we can already see the fruits of this initiative,” said Brazil’s Secretary of Communications, Maximiliano Martinhao.
